How to grow a forest!!

Forests are self sustaining eco-systems and as part of our plan we have left aside roughly 30% of our land to develop it as a wild life corridor. But getting to a self sustaining ecosystem may not be as easy as you think. This day workshop will take you through the journey, answer questions around a forest eco-system and how you can build one (at a small scale and with a low budget)

Following will be the schedule for the program 8:30-9:00 Arrival- Welcome, familiarize yourself with the place 9:00-9:30 Breakfast 9:30 to 10:30 Forest Ecosystems and its components, tree varieties, germination process, the costs of planting 10:30 to 11:00 Break 11:00 to 01:00 Tour of the forest and the upper wild life corridor with some hands on about plant identification, planting etc 01:00 to 02:00 Lunch break 2:00 to 3:30 Pre-planting preparation and post planting care, Reducing mortality, Season for planting, source of plants etc. 3:30 to 4:00 Tea break 4:00 to 4:30 Final Q&A and wrap up

The workshop will be conducted by Praveen Ram. Having worked for wildlife conservation, he has walked pristine and virgin forests of around Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Kodagu. In the process he understood how the eco-systems work and their symbiotic relationships. Trees, shrubs and plants form the core of any healthy eco system. He believes that in a forests we must try to mimic these systems as much.

The cost is an all inclusive cost. Please carry your water bottle, a cap, sun-glasses and sun-screen. The hands-on session can be quite laborious and if you are not able to do it yourself, you can choose to watch and learn :-)
